This piece was inspired by the song "Nightmare" by Artie Shaw. The first time I ever heard this song, I was heavily researching and reading biographies about Howard Hughes, and in the film The Aviator, there is a scene where Howard (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) burns his clothes after Katherine Hepburn leaves him. This was the beginning of his descent into madness and Artie Shaw's song was playing during the scene. Coincidentally, the piece sold to a pilot who appreciated the story and my personal connection to identifying with the heartbreak and more. Music is very powerful and definitely fuels the energy that inspires what I project onto canvas.
If you look closely at the painting, there is the shadow of this white plane over the city. Listening to Nightmare, I just got lost in this piece and became obsessed with learning more about Howard Hughes.
